2128-P: Glycemic Outcomes following the Diabetes, Data & Devices (D 3 ) Education Program: An Interrupted Time Series Evaluation in Youth with Type 1 Diabetes



Introduction and Objective: Despite the increased use of wearable technologies for self-management of type 1 diabetes, patients and families do not commonly download and review their data between clinic visits. The Diabetes, Data & Devices (D3) Education Program was developed to address this gap by providing structured education on diabetes data review and interpretation. This study evaluates the effects of the D3 Education program on glycemic outcomes.Methods: The D3 Program was delivered as a two-hour in-person class led by a pediatric endocrinologist and/or CDCES to patients with T1D and families at Mott Children’s Hospital. A quasi-experimental interrupted time series was conducted on the impact of the D3 Education program on the HbA1c of individuals who have type 1 diabetes. The HbA1c was modeled over time relative to class using linear mixed-effects regression with a random intercept to account for repeated measures.Results: The mean baseline HbA1c of participants (n=199) was 8.6%. 27.6% of participants were newly diagnosed (≤6 months), and 57.8% used insulin pump therapy.Conclusion: Participation in the D3 Education Program was associated with a clinically meaningful immediate reduction in HbA1c, particularly among newly diagnosed individuals compared with those diagnosed >6 months earlier. Glycemic control stabilized following the intervention, although post-class slope changes were not statistically significant.
