“We moved a lot, but I did most of my growing up outside Iowa City, Iowa,” Martin Myers says. His father was a physician, but his family lived on a farm that grew corn and soybeans. They had horses. He and his brother raised sheep. “We got up to no good,” he says. “Banging around the fields, playing in the barns.” Myers considered becoming a veterinarian, but never too seriously. It was not until high school, when the family moved to Cincinnati, that Myers began to see the possibilities of a career in science.
