“It was always sports,” Jonathan Campbell says, describing his childhood. He grew up in Toronto, where his father worked as a hydrogeologist and his mother as a grade school teacher. His initial interest was soccer, but by high school his focus had shifted entirely to basketball. “I spent a lot of time on a basketball court in my teenage years,” he says, “so I wanted to learn about the science of sports.”
