Comment on Lin et al. Reconsidering Adipose Tissue Lipolysis Dysfunction: Evidence for a Distal Machinery Defect Beyond Insulin Resistance

In their recent article in Diabetes, Lin et al. (1) report an exceptionally strong correlation (r = −0.93) between insulin- and niacin-mediated suppression of FFA-palmitate Ra. Because these agents act through distinct proximal signaling pathways, this correlation, not only notable, is mechanistically constraining and directly informs the interpretation of adipose tissue (AT) dysfunction in obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D).
